I designed and made this game and photoshoot for the magazine CIVIS mit SONDE, for their issue on ‘Intergenerational justice’ (Generationengerechtigkeit).
As art director for the magazine, I worked with the editorial committee on the photography concept for the issue. After brainstorming We settled on the creation of a new game which would be physically produced, stage-set and played by a family, and photographed to create a playful visual theme for the magazine.
The resulting new game, ‘das Spiel der Generationen’ (The Generation Game), and the photoshoot, were a parody of the capitalist utopian board games of the 1980s and 1990s, such as these:
The articles in the magazine covered a whole range of topics to do with 'Intergenerational justice' in germany, including climate change, pensions, upward mobility, family life, social welfare and mental health. These themes were integrated into the players' journey through the game.
the final photos and elements of the game design were used to illustrate the articles of the 100 page printed magazine, which has a readership of 25,000+ within Germany.
