Since 2021 I am the Art Director, typesetter and Layouter for Civis mit Sonde, a political debate magazine with a readership of 25k+ which has been printed and published in Germany for over 75 years.
Art Direction
As Art director, I design the visual concept of each issue, working together with the editorial committee, photographers and illustrators, to see the 100 page magazine through to the printed product. The magazine often takes a documentary-photography style of visual communication, and the cover is usually a full page, commissioned photograph on the issue's main theme:
Layout & Typesetting
Once the editors have handed over the articles, I typeset and lay them out over the 100-page issue, working in bespoke graphics, author illustrations and the photography for the issue. The end result is a text-heavy yet visually engaging journal:
